SchemaServerOverviewAt the heart of the of SchemaLogic Enterprise Suite is SchemaServer, a flexible object modeling, collaboration and governance engine that supports simple list structures, complex multi-faceted taxonomies or ontologies, and enterprise-wide metadata structures that describe corporate information assets. This is where semantic and business model standards are gathered, refined, reconciled, and distributed to subscribing systems. The following defines the high level features of SchemaServer:
Feature OverviewSemantic and Structural ModelingSchemaServer allows you to capture and manage the standard business terminology and code systems that must be used consistently across your enterprise as Vocabularies, Terms and Relationships. This powerful and flexible system can model simple but critical lists like sales regions or marketing segmentation models up to complex multi-faceted taxonomies or ontology’s describing complex business systems or product and service networks with hundreds of thousands of terms. SchemaServer enables you to describe the structural metadata used to store and exchange information as a hierarchy of information classes with associated elements (properties). For example, this logical modeling capability can be used to capture a consistent and easy to understand model of all of the content management systems in your enterprise and see how they interrelate with one another. Together, relationships between semantic (taxonomic) and structural models are combined, enabling a comprehensive standard where each model defined in SchemaServer can be published as the standard and used by external systems as the single source of truth. Impact AnalysisSchemaServer provides the ability to identify whether changes to a semantic model will have impacts on other objects and users. All add, update, delete, and move operations on all model objects can be configured to invoke a comprehensive impact analysis to assess the impacts on other semantically-related objects in the system including Owners or Stakeholder Users of those objects. GovernanceSchemaServer provides a governance process to control the maintenance of the semantic standard. When changes to the model are made, impacted Stakeholders are identified and a voting process is initiated with controls for managing the change (voting rights, time periods, approval/roll-back and governance process to be used). This flexible system accommodates the culture of an organization, division, department, and/or team and their specific governance policies. SecuritySchemaServer provides the ability to define security permissions for the model, controlling who are the Owners, Stakeholders, and Subscribers to objects within the model. AuditingSchemaServer provides a complete audit history of changes to the model, where changes are tracked and placed into an auditing system for reporting and archive. Core Modeling ClientThe core modeling user interface, “Workshop” is designed to support sophisticated users who need to define and govern simple to complex data models. Web Access ClientWorkshop Web provides a light weight user interface for Business Semantics consumers (subject matter experts, domain experts, business users, etc.) who do not require the robust modeling features offered for information architects, data modelers, and taxonomists. SchemaLogic Software Development KitSchemaServer includes a SDK that provides documentation and sample code for using the published and supported SOAP API. |
