Components of SchemaLogic Connector for SharePoint 2007
The following diagram provides an overview of the functional components that are a part of the Connector application:

SchemaServer
SchemaServer is a flexible object modeling, collaboration and governance engine that supports simple list structures, complex multi-faceted taxonomies or ontologies, and enterprise-wide meta data structures that describe the corporate information assets. This is where semantic and business model standards are gathered, refined, reconciled, and distributed to subscribing systems. For SharePoint, SchemaServer is used to define the standard metadata model for SharePoint sites across your enterprise.
SchemaServer Client UI’s
SchemaServer has two Client user interfaces that are available to define, search, view, and modify the SharePoint metadata model:
- Core Modeling Client (Workshop) - is designed to support
the sophisticated users who need to define and govern simple
to complex data models. Workshop is a desktop GUI application
used by system architects, IT Managers, Taxonomists, System Administrators
and SharePoint Administrators to import, model, rationalize,
and manage the synchronization of metadata models, schemas and
business semantics with other applications and systems in your
organization.
- Web Access Client (Workshop Web) - is a zero-footprint web client user interface designed for deployment across the enterprise to support viewing, change management and collaboration. The solution enables subject matter experts and general business users to view, manage and collaborate on the development of enterprise–wide semantic models. Workshop Web features an intuitive and easily accessible web-based interface, is easy to understand and requires zero to minimal training.
Connector Client
The Connector Client is user interface that runs as a local desktop .NET windows application, used to setup and manage an instance of SharePoint Connector. This client is used by the SharePoint Administrator to setup the Connector properties, create the linkages between the semantic standard defined in SchemaServer with the SharePoint metadata objects exposed to the Connector, and initiate or schedule metadata synchronizations.
Compliance Monitor Client
The Compliance Monitor Client is a user interface that runs as a local desktop .NET windows application, used to identify both high level and detailed reporting on the delta between the models in SchemaServer with the corresponding metadata models in SharePoint. The user interface provides configuration options for defining the compliance policies for the company (configuring the compliance categories, weightings, and approved variance items) and compliance reporting with both statistical and graphical views to identify the variances. Additionally, the application allows for a user to perform a number of actions to bring the models into closer alignment and to identify items that are accepted variances.
Connector Web Service
The Connector Web Service is a .NET Web Service and accompanying libraries that is installed on the SharePoint server in single server installs, or to a Web Application in a multi-box farm implementation. The Web Service connects directly to the Windows SharePoint Services Object model API to perform operations in SharePoint using accepted .Net best practices for Authorization and Authentication. The Web Service connects to SchemaServer through its SOAP API.
SP Connector DB Cache
Once a standard model is registered by the SchemaLogic Connector for SharePoint 2007, it is stored in an independent Microsoft SQLServer Database (DB Cache). DB Cache allows one or more Connectors to run independent of SchemaServer and supports the performance and scalability demands of an enterprise IT stack where there may be multiple farms located in multiple regional locations. The DB Cache can be configured as a single instance to be synchronized with SchemaServer and through replication technologies all other regional DB Cache’s are brought up to date.
SOAP API’s / SDK
The Connector Web Service is available for customers and partners to write custom client applications against the Connector service exposing the core API calls to create object links, delete object links and synchronize object links.
